this project was made possible with support from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) through a project grant, which helped make a exhibit at p:ear gallery in 2012 a reality. the show included almost 300 images from the project.
additional support came from dozens of individual donors who contributed to a Kickstarter Campaign that raised over $10,000. the money was used to publish a book that was released in 2014 with another exhibit at Cultured Caveman in Kenton. the book is still for sale on this website: here.
in October 2009 I started a yearlong project to photograph one woman a day and share her story of inspiration. i had just moved from Washington, D.C. to Portland, Oregon and this project gave me the opportunity to redefine my portrait work, and to meet hundreds of women in my new community. this group of women truly inspired me with their kindness, and their willingness to be vulnerable and share their stories.
my biggest supporter throughout this entire project was by far my wonderful husband, Tom. if it wasn’t for him there were nights when I wouldn’t have walked out the door to find a woman to photograph, the show would not have gone up the way it did, and the book would not have been finished. i sincerely hope all artists have a supportive partner like this. we need people like that in our lives believing in us and reminding us that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
